The best way to enjoy going natural is to make your own products. All sorts of things like shower gels, bath treatments, moisturisers, hand creams, face masks, the list goes on, can be made at home. You’ve probably got most of the ingredients in your fridge and pantry already.

My children love to help me make some of these. It’s a great way to get the boys to wash up. If they get to choose the flavour of the soap, they’ll use the soap.

I’ve found the children are curious about what goes into things like bath treatments and face masks. It’s a good way to get them to ask questions about the products they use. It will stand them in good stead when they are adults. They will question the ingredients in the products offered for use. Maybe they will be able to help in the fight against destroying the environment or maybe just to help find products which are safe to use for their children. It’s good they will be aware.

Most natural products are cheap to make. Make them in small quantities- just enough to be used immediately. Fresh is always better for you. You won’t be using preservatives. Make sure the utensils you use are clean.

There are endless recipes for you to try. Don’t be afraid to experiment. Test everything in small doses first, in case of allergies. As with all things in life, use your commonsense. If something stings or irritates your skin, remove it immediately and wash the area well. Nothing in these recipes is supposed to be uncomfortable in any way.

I’ve listed a few popular recipes but you can find heaps more on the internet.
