Treat Yourself To A Steam Facial- Naturally The Best

Once a week you can treat yourself to a steam facial.

You will need a large bowl of steaming water, a towel, soap (or preferred cleanser), vegetable oil and a light moisturiser.

Cleanse your face thoroughly first. Gently pat dry. Lightly massage some oil into skin. Remove excess. Put a towel over your head to keep the steam in and lean about 30 centimetres over a steaming bowl of water. You can scald yourself if the water is too hot. If at any stage you feel too hot or a burning sensation remove the towel. Move further away or wait for the water to cool some more. Otherwise, stay in the steam for about 5 minutes. Finish gently applying a light moisturiser.

You can try adding herbs like peppermint, lavender, chamomile or green tea for a refreshing change. If you have allergies please be aware that chamomile is related to ragweed. If you have any doubts just use them briefly to see if there’s a reaction, or don’t use them at all.

A Steam Facial is great for deep cleaning your skin. Sometimes you will breakout after the first steam facial. Don’t be alarmed. It is just the impurities that were deeply imbedded in your pores being flushed away. It is a sign that the steam Facial is working.

A Milk Bath –Naturally The Best

Cleopatra was right. Milk is great for your skin. Milk exfoliates, softens and nourishes the skin.

There are several ways to enjoy a milk bath.

Add one cup of milk to your bath.

You can add one tablespoon of honey, to soften, protect and feed your skin.

Sea salts detoxify and soften skin.

Baking soda is a good cleanser and skin softener.

. If you add oatmeal, the oatmeal will soothe dry, itchy skin and protect skin.

You can use oatmeal in a bath tea bag that doubles as a washcloth.

If you add all of these ingredients together, you will have a wonderful mixture.

Try different combinations.

Easy To Make Bath Tea Bags- Naturally The Best

You can make or buy a cheesecloth (or muslin, cotton, etc.) bags, about 6cmx8cm with a drawstring top. Don’t use anything that is dyed as the dye may run in your bath. The bag will hold the ingredients and can be used as a washcloth. You don’t get the mess of herbs floating loose in your bathwater.

Some suggested ingredients are any combination of dried milk, sea salt, Epsom salts, green tea, dried herbs, oats, or dried citrus rinds.

Use dry ingredients so the bags will not spoil. If you make the tie long enough you can hang the bag from the tap as the bath fills.

They make a great gift idea too!

Warning! Naturally The Best

Natural and homemade remedies, personal care products and food are not always safe.

You have to use your common sense. All natural products can deteriorate with age (except for honey but that’s another story) and can become contaminated if stored incorrectly. Herbs are often poisonous if taken in the wrong dose. Some are poisonous at certain times of the year; some are poisonous in part or in combination. Just because it’s natural doesn’t automatically make it good for us.

If you choose to make your personal care products, foods, or cleaners at home from natural ingredients make sure you follow directions and heed any warnings. Usually it’s best to make up only enough for your immediate needs. Natural ingredients may need refrigeration. They may spoil or become ineffective over time. Some may even make you unwell. Be aware of any allergies you or your family may have and watch for any unusual reactions.

Let Common Sense prevail and you will enjoy the benefits of a healthy lifestyle and the fun of making your own products.

Good For The Environment-Naturally The Best

There are so many toxic chemicals in our environment already. Every time we shower, wash dishes, do laundry or clean our homes we are adding to the pollution. The waterways are choked with weeds that are tolerant to these chemicals while beneficial plants and animal life are destroyed. We can stop the damage by using natural cleaning products.

We can also help our bodies by using chemical free products. Have you noticed the number of people affected by allergies seem to be increasing?

We can go back to purer cleaning products and reduce the effect on the environment.

We can use purer products on our bodies and let our immune systems recuperate. We can create a healthier world, starting in our own homes.

We can reduce waste by reusing containers. If you make your own toiletries, you can use the containers from your old ones. Save the pretty ones for gifts. Everyone loves natural, homemade gifts.

Body Scrubs-Naturally The Best

Body scrubs are great to deep cleanse your skin. Use once or twice a week to improve dry skin and soften elbows, hands, knees and feet.

A wet base like oil, vegetable butter or liquid soap is combined in equal portions with a dry exfoliate like sea salt, Epsom salts, sugar, or oatmeal.

Make only enough for your immediate use. You won’t want any more than about two tablespoons. Try different ingredients to see which suits your skins needs most.

Love Your Feet- Naturally The Best

Start with a ten minute soak right up to the ankles. Try adding baking soda, sea salt or Epsom salts to the water. You could also use green tea, lemon juice, lavender oil or your favourite herbal tea bag.

Take your feet from the water and place on newspaper, or something that can be cleaned easily. Apply a scrub made with two tablespoons of vegetable oil and either salt, sugar, oatmeal or coffee grounds. Rub into your feet. You don’t have to rub hard because your feet should have softened and the scrub is coarse.  Make sure you rub every part of your feet and ankles.

When you’re finished scrape or wash away the scrub. Wipe your feet clean with a damp washcloth. Massage with a small amount of vegetable oil.

Your feet will feel great and if you do this regularly they will look great too.

Treat Your Hands-Naturally The Best

A great treat for your hands is a hand spa. A gentle soak followed by a fruity exfoliation and finally a little massage with oil.

The scrub is made from a combination of mashed acidic fruits like papaya, mango, apple, pineapple, banana and strawberry.

Make up your scrub and have it handy.

Start with soaking your hands for ten minutes in a warm bath. You can use plain water or you could add Epsom salts or oatmeal, or your choice of herbs or tea or milk.

Next apply the scrub and leave on your hands for one minute, then gently massage for another minute. Gently rinse clean and then massage a small quantity of oil into your hands.
